Why Is The Catholic Church Losing Latin America?

The Cathlic Church is losing ground in Latin America. In particular, in Brazil.

This is at least according to a recent Wall Street Journal Article. Twitter had people reposting the article like these 3 below:

Each one posed this question: “Why is the Catholic Church losing ground in Latin America”?

When something comes across me like this, my first instinct is to just think that this author is wrong, and everything in the article is probably rubbish (Like that British word? #DowntownAbbey).

But, as I read this article- I tried to read it with an open mind.

The article goes into how the Catholic Church hasn’t created the home that some people want out of a Religion. And these very people are finding their home in Evangelical Churches, throughout Brazil.

Latin America has always been a hub of Catholicism, with Brazil being the biggest Catholic Country in the world. So, do these people have a point? Maybe. Or is it easier to just label them as heretics, and move on with my day.

As I stopped and thought, I kept going back to the idea that a home is made up of people. A house is a building where you live. A home is the people; the deep connection to a place.

This article struck me. It challenged me to think of how I can make our Church a better home. Maybe it’s not just donuts after church, and it’s a little more prayer. My big takeaway is not to think these people and trends are rubbish (#Downtown), but a checkpoint into how we are doing as a community

Lemme know your thoughts on this, because if TikTok has taught me anything, it’s that people love to get into the details of Ecumenism.

I want to use New Media to spread the faith, build up creators, and uphold family life. Most of all, I want to live the Adventure with Jesus driving the Car!
