Texas BBQ, God, and Dash of Patience

Texas BBQ, God, and Dash of Patience

What do Texas BBQ, God, and Patience all have in common?

I love BBQ. Since moving to Texas, I have learned more about the BBQ culture here in America, and the pride the BBQ community feels about their city’s version of BBQ. Each city has their own specialty BBQ. And, the people in each city think their BBQ is the best. Naturally, this creates a lot of rivalries.

Below, is an article about Texans going to a BBQ School to learn from experts how to better crush their next cookout.

As I read this article, I was so stuck by the Drive and the patience of BBQ Masters. One thing I respect so much about these BBQ experts is the patience it takes to make great BBQ. You have to smoke a brisket for like, 12 hours… And from what I have learned about BBQ: There are NO SHORTCUTS. You can’t just take a flamethrower to a piece of meat, and then boom. Burnt ends. Nope, you have to endure the slow cooking nature of BBQ. It takes patience to get it right.

Which brings me to my takeaways from this article: I am constantly struck with how impatience I am. It could be traffic, or a prayer not getting answered in 1 hour- I will dive into the deep end of impatience. But when I am patient with the things in my life, and don’t get upset over the delayed promises of God, my life makes more sense.

So what do Texas BBQ, God and Patience have in common? If you want to get the first two right, you have to have the last one.
