Pope Francis’ Prayer on Divine Mercy Sunday, recently stated, “Jesus is not looking for perfect Christians”.
And I for one, am relieved. Because let me tell you, I’m far from perfect. No matter what you might think reading the blog on this website- I make mistakes all the time.
On Divine Mercy Sunday, Pope Francis spoke at St Peter’s Square to talk about the example of the Apostle Thomas. Thomas is most known for having big time doubts on whether Jesus actually rose from the dead or not.
For 2,000 years, we have associated Thomas with being doubtful of things in our faith… We even call him “Doubting Thomas”.
But, Thomas is actually a great example of wrestling with faith and not being perfect.
Pope Francis compares Thomas with us, “We too are like Thomas with the same doubts, the same reasoning”.
I love how Fracnis levels out doubts in life with compassion. Thomas doubted and so do we. But, that’s not the end of the story.
“By telling the story of Thomas, in fact the Gospel tells us that the Lord is not looking for perfect Christians”, Pope Francis goes on to say.
Again, what a relief! I know I’m not perfect so it;s great to hear the Pope tell me that Jesus accepts that I am on the path to perfect and not there, just yet.
He sums up faith and out doubt by stating, “No, the adventure of faith consists of light and shadows. Othersiee what kind of faith would it be?”
Our faith is an adventure. It’s up and down, and filled with Doubt, but the one we are chasing is perfect and there to guide us. Big shoutout to Thomas for being the example for us all with how we approach Jesus when we are not perfect.
