Mark Wahlberg observed Ash Wednesday today, in a big way.
This guy posted a video on Twitter with the MOST ASHES ever on his forehead.
The priest who did this, must have Andre-The-Giant size thumbs because Wahlberg’s whole forehead is caked with ashes.
Today is Ash Wednesday aka- the start of Lent. The season where we pray, do penance, and perform acts of charity, in hopes to orient the attention in our lives to Jesus.
Lent is not easy. I feel a spiritual attack very often during Lent. For example, I am giving up seltzer water this Lent. And, the negative thoughts I am thinking are extreme right now.
I don’t know how I can do it. I drink 3-4 of these things a day. How the heck can I do this? Have you guys tasted tap water recently?? Not a ton of flavor..
So yeah, I am going all-in this Lent. No evening seltzers for this guy!
This is what brings me to Mark Wahlberg’s forehead. For me, making sacrifices fun can help me through it.
It’s always fun to see the lighter side of our faith. I remember comparing everyone’s foreheads when I was growing up, on Ash Wednesday. It always made me laugh to look at the one kid who had his entire forehead covered, and he just had to sit in school all day like that. Eventually, his face would get covered as the ashes would fall. But nonetheless, it’s little things like this, that I remember.
So, as this Lenten season takes off, I am going to have some fun with my sacrifices. I want to remember the journey and not just think of how hard things can be.
I am going to look at Mark Wahlberg’s forehead and remember that Lent is more than just the sacrifices.
