Have You Been Cursing More During the Pandemic?

Apparently, we have all been cursing more during the Pandemic. This comes from a study in an article in the Wall Street Journal

All across the internet and Television, “studies” are drawing conclusions about every corner of human life. Want to know the effects or chlorine in your water supply? Boom, there is  study for that. Ever wonder if holding your breath for over a minute is bad? Bam, read this study about oxygen in the brain. Have you ever wondered if direct sunlight triggers memories from childhood gym class? You guessed it- there are people looking up at the sun and becoming shell shocked about a Dodgeball flying in their face.

So, in this study, the “Studiers” said we are cursing more because of the Pandemic.

Cursing has been a staple in confession for years, for me. I’ve phrased it differently, but ever since I have learned these words, I have found ways to work them in my life.

Everytime I read Matthew 12:36, I get a little nervous. The verse reads, “But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment.”

Yeah, not feeling great about Judgement day. I just imagine myself getting judged, and all the bad words I’ve used are being read from a really big book. St Peter is just going in order from when I was a kid, reading all the words with no context. And there are people waiting in line behind me to get judged, and they are judging on their own if I make it to Heaven or not. So, I feel the need to try and explain myself as to why I was cursing so much…

This is just a possible scenario of what my judgment day could look like, but that’s what the Bible verse brings to mind for me.

Since I feel this way, I am always trying to curse less. I have made great improvements, but definitely need some work, especially when it comes to driving in traffic. But that’s just me: a guy trying to curse less so people aren’t scandalized in the line on Judgement Day.

I am hoping to prove this study, in the article, wrong. Because while people may be cursing more on the account of the Pandemic, I am in the battle to curse less, and have been since I was 10.

Here’s hoping I can keep the line moving for everyone on Judgement Day.
